Barcelona confirmed the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcoa on a permanent deal from fellow La Liga club Espanyol on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old has signed a contract until 2031 with Barça and arrives to further strengthen a position which includes Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Wojciech Szczesny and Inaki Pena.
Born in Catalonia, Garcia joined Espanyol in 2016 and progressed through the club’s academy, eventually making his first team debut in 2021.
He helped Espanyol win promotion to La Liga in 2024-25 season and featured in all 38 league games of the season as his side secured survival on the final day.
During his time at Espanyol, he became a regular in Spain’s youth national teams from the U17 to the U21 level, and he has an Olympic gold medal from the 2024 Games in Paris.
He becomes the first Espanyol player to move directly to Barca since Igor Korneev in 1994.
