Arsenal may bid for surprise Premier League star to replace Thomas Partey

Brentford’s Christian Norgaard could be on Arsenal’s radar this transfer window. The 31-year-old midfielder, who has two years remaining on his contract with the Bees, is among the potential targets as the Gunners look to strengthen their midfield.

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad but may lose Thomas Partey, whose contract expires this month and has not yet agreed to an extension. Partey was a key player for Mikel Arteta last season, making 52 appearances in all competitions, and his departure would leave a significant gap in the defensive midfield role.

This comes after the exit of Italian international Jorginho, who left for Brazilian side Flamengo after two-and-a-half years at Arsenal, contributing to their FIFA Club World Cup victory over Chelsea on Friday night.

Norgaard joined Brentford in 2019 and played a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2021 through the play-offs.

As captain, he has been instrumental in Brentford’s five consecutive seasons in the Premier League. Last season, under former head coach Thomas Frank, who has since moved to Tottenham Hotspur, Norgaard made 34 Premier League appearances.

Norgaard has been a consistent performer for the Danish national team in recent seasons. Brentford, however, would command a hefty fee for their captain, with other key players such as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa also drawing attention from other clubs.

However, considering his age, if Arsenal were to make an approach and Norgaard was keen on one last significant move as his career nears its end, then Brentford might be willing to let him go for a reduced fee.
