England defender Lucy Bronze said that she played the entirety of the Women’s EURO 2025 tournament in Switzerland with a fractured tibia after winning the title against Spain at St. Jakob Park in Basel on Sunday.
Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo scored for Spain and England, respectively, in regulation time, and it stayed level even after the extra 30 minutes.
In the shootout, Spain missed three of its attempts before Chloe Kelly converted the winning penalty.

Veteran Bronze revealed to BBC in a post-match interview that she had played the full competition with an injury.
“I’ve actually played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia, but no one knew, and then I hurt my knee today on the other leg,” she said.
Bronze had to be replaced by Niamh Charles after the end of the first period of extra time after sustaining an injury, leaving her to watch the shootout from the bench.
“We never lost belief in ourselves; there was a lot of noise on the outside. To go through 120 minutes back-to-back and to win on penalties in two of those games is unbelievable,” she added about the match.
