Manchester United have released a statement revealing that Jadon Sancho has returned to training with the squad. The winger was sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund last season after he publicly clashed with Erik ten Hag. Sancho was left unhappy after he was axed from United’s squad to face Arsenal and his manager hinted that his training levels were an issue.
The England international took to social media to deny those claims and hit back, prompting Ten Hag to demand an apology from the playmaker. Sancho refused and was therefore exiled from the squad before being allowed to leave the club on loan in January.
With Ten Hag remaining in the Old Trafford dugout next season, a permanent sale of Sancho was expected. However, the pair now appear to have buried the hatchet.
United have announced that Sancho is back in first-team training ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with a plan in place which will see him feature in pre-season for the Red Devils.
They announced: “A group of senior players including the likes of Andre Onana, Casemiro, Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford all returned to base on Monday, ready to get to work.
“Jadon Sancho returned for testing on Wednesday following his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund during the second half of last season. The 24-year-old forward then trained with the group on Thursday.”
According to The Mirror, Ten Hag and Sancho have held ‘positive talks’ at Carrington to discuss the incident. Both parties are said to have agreed to apologise for their respective roles in the bust-up.
Sancho was keen to permanently join Dortmund this summer after his successful short-term return to the Signal Iduna Park but United’s asking price was too significant, prompting Sir Jim Ratcliffe to demand that the winger met with Ten Hag to thrash out their problems.
