Liverpool’s maiden transfer window of the post-Jurgen Klopp era has started off slowly, with Arne Slot yet to make his first signing as Reds boss.
Most of the activity for Liverpool this summer has come behind the scenes, with the likes of Michael Edwards, Julian Ward and Richard Hughes hired – and in some cases re-hired – as part of an FSG shake-up.
There have been departures though. Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian are among the most notable, with room for additions having opened up in the Liverpool dressing room.
And with the European Championship and Copa America having wrapped up, it’s expected Liverpool’s transfer activity will spark into life across the next week or two.
In preparation for that, Express Sport have highlighted three transfer deals that could ignite Liverpool’s summer window.
Euros star Marc Guehi pens move to Anfield
While England might’ve reached the final of Euro 2024, there were few players who left Germany on the back of a standout tournament.
Marc Guehi certainly did though, impressing in each of England’s seven matches, bar the quarter-final victory over Switzerland, which he missed via suspension.
Talk of a big-money switch away from Crystal Palace has picked up in the meantime, with Liverpool positioning themselves as one of the clubs most likely to land the 24-year-old.
Following Matip’s exit in the summer, Slot could do with adding another centre-back to his squad and it would be little surprise to see the six-time European champions target Guehi.
Anthony Gordon makes controversial Liverpool return
Alongside Guehi for England this summer, albeit not on the pitch, was Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon – another rumoured Liverpool target.
Newcastle spent big on Gordon in January 2023, with the attacker joining as part of a £45million deal.
But with PSR concerns plaguing Newcastle’s transfer plans, the Magpies might be forced into selling their most valuable assets, few of which would command a bigger fee than Gordon.
A boyhood Liverpool fan, it wouldn’t take much to convince Gordon about moving back to Merseyside, with the ex-Everton star even reportedly disclosing a wish to join the Anfield outfit to his fellow England team-mates.
Trent Alexander-Arnold makes crushing Real Madrid move
From one Scouse star to another, it’s the transfer all Liverpool fans will be hoping doesn’t go through, but looks more and more likely as time goes by.
Trent Alexander-Arnold boasts just one year left on his contract, meaning long-term admirers Real Madrid would be able to snatch him on a free transfer next summer.
Losing Alexander-Arnold on a free would likely represent the worst-case scenario for Liverpool, but unless the right-back-turn-midfielder pens a new deal, the window of opportunity to cash in appears to be getting smaller.
If the La Liga side come knocking with a bumper offer this summer, it could prove too good for the profit-conscious FSG to turn down – something that would undoubtedly represent a crushing blow for Liverpool at the beginning of a new dawn under Slot and co.
