Seed-slaying Popyrin into Montreal Masters semis

Australia’s Alexei Popyrin has extended his seed-slaying run to reach the semi-finals of the ATP Tour’s Montreal Masters.

World No 62 Popyrin won a tight quarter-final battle to oust fourth-seeded world No.6 Hubert Hurkacz on Sunday (Monday AEST), setting up a clash with last week’s title winner Sebastian Korda for a spot in the final.

Popyrin won 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-5, having already overcome 11th seed Ben Shelton and seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov en route to the quarter-final.

Korda, the world No.18, is on a great run of his own.

He downed second seed Alexander Zverev 7-6 (7-5) 1-6 6-4 to advance to the semis a week after winning his second ATP tour title in Washington DC.
