Australia went with late call-ups Sean Abbott and Riley Meredith for the first match of their white-ball tour of the UK, a T20 against Scotland in Edinburgh.
Stand-in captain Mitch Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl at the Grange in the first of three T20s with the Scots.
The reigning Allan Border Medallist is leading the team while Pat Cummins rests to manage his workload.
Abbott was summoned to replace Spencer Johnson after the speedster was ruled out with a side strain, and Meredith was then added to the party as Josh Hazlewood has a calf problem. They were joined in the pace attack by Xavier Bartlett, who played in the UK this season with Kent, with Nathan Ellis omitted.
Hazlewood is expected to be fit to face England in three T20s and five ODIs, which are scheduled immediately after the Scotland matches.
Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Inglis also start, after coming into the squad following the T20 World Cup, but West Australian young gun Cooper Connolly will have to wait for his debut.
AUSTRALIA: Head, Fraser-McGurk, Marsh (c), Inglis (wk), Stoinis, David, Green, Abbott, Bartlett, Zampa, Meredith.
