Tsitsipas predicted Badosa relationship three years before getting together

Stefanos Tsitsipas has opened up on his high-profile relationship with tennis star Paula Badosa.

The pair started dating last year and made things public through a joint Spotify playlist.

But the ATP No. 11 has now revealed that he predicted they would get together three years earlier, admitting it was “love at first sight”.

‘Tsitsidosa’ are one of many tennis power couples on the tours, along with the likes of Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, and Anna Kalinskaya and Jannik Sinner.

The pair first sparked dating rumours in June 2023 when they made a shared Spotify playlist and changed their respective profile photos on the music platform to selfies of the two of them.

They quickly confirmed their relationship and have since been spotted cheering each other on during tournaments. Barring a brief split earlier this year, the couple have now been together for around 17 months.

The Greek star and the Spaniard have now given one of their first big joint interviews, where Tsitsipas admitted he fell for Badosa when he first saw her at the 2020 Australian Open. “It’s funny, but Paula and I never really met during tournaments,” he told Hola.

“In fact, we might have only met two or three times before I actually got a chance to go up to her and say hello and introduce myself.”

It’s unusual that their paths didn’t cross given how many joint ATP-WTA events are on the calendar. But Badosa did catch the 26-year-old’s eye on one occasion.

He continued: “I would say the first time I noticed Paula was when I saw her at the 2020 Australian Open, playing on Centre Court.

“It was love at first sight and I was completely mesmerised from that day on. I remember thinking to myself that one day we would be together.”

It took three more years for the pair to get together, with Tsitsipas sliding into Badosa’s DMs after one of her match wins at the Italian Open. The pair now believe they are “soulmates”.

“We are very similar in our way of being. Since we are dedicated to the same thing, we empathise a lot with each other,” Badosa explained.

“On the other hand, I think we have also experienced very similar things in the past and that has forged similar characters.

“He is a person who is perhaps a little more introverted and I am more extroverted, but I think we complement each other very well. He always mentioned that we were like soulmates and I think he is quite right.”

The power couple are still supporting each other even as the 2024 season nears its conclusion. Badosa has already played her final tournament of the year and she’s been cheering Tsitsipas on at this week’s Paris Masters.
