Manchester United have issued a blunt statement to confirm that Dan Ashworth is leaving his role as the club’s sporting director.
The 53-year-old only joined the Red Devils five months ago but has now departed Old Trafford in an unexpected move. His exit came as a surprise, given the lengths United went to in their efforts to poach him from Newcastle earlier this year.
United confirmed the news in a brief statement, which read: “Dan Ashworth will be leaving his role as sporting director of Manchester United by mutual agreement.
“We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.”
