Barcelona gets provisional clearance to extend Dani Olmo, Pau Victor’s registration from Spain’s sports court CSD

Spain’s sports court, Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), on Wednesday, provisionally allowed La Liga club FC Barcelona to extend Dani Olmo and Pau Victor’s registration.

The decision comes four days after the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga rejected the club’s appeal to register the players.

“The Higher Sports Council (CSD) has this Wednesday upheld the urgent precautionary measure requested by FC Barcelona and by the players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor,” CSD said in a statement.

The CSD said that it examined the the 52-page appeal and the more than 60 documents submitted by the club, after its appeal was rejected by the league and national federation on January 4.

“This measure, which is provisional until the appeal filed by the club and the aforementioned players is finally resolved, suspends the Agreement of the Monitoring Committee of the RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement, dated January 4, 2025, and the cancellation of the sports licenses of the aforementioned players. It also maintains the validity of said licenses until this appeal is finally resolved,” it added.

Olmo joined the Catalans ahead of the 2024-25 season for a sum in the ballpark of 60 million euros from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig while Victor was signed by Barcelona from its reserve team on a permanent basis.

Soon after the Spanish duo arrived in Catalan, both players had to wait for their debut as Barcelona failed to adhere to La Liga’s rules on the salary cap, which stopped it from registering new players.

Both players are part of the travelling squad for Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup semifinal against Athletic Club on Wednesday, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
