Amad Diallo has labelled the previous seven days as “one of the best” weeks of his life after netting an awe-inspiring hat-trick during Manchester United‘s thrilling 3-1 triumph over Southampton at Old Trafford.
Heading into the final 10 minutes of the match trailing due to a Manuel Ugarte own-goal just before the break, Amad equalised in the 82nd minute, defeating Saints keeper Aaron Ramsdale with a shot after his previous attempt had been blocked.
The Ivorian then flipped the game upside down by capitalising on Christian Eriksen’s splendid chipped pass, leaving Ramsdale beaten and setting off ecstatic celebrations within Old Trafford in the dying seconds of normal time.
In injury time, Amad was quick to exploit a defensive error from the Saints, recording his first-ever career hat-trick just days after agreeing a new contract that extends his stay at the club until 2030.
Reflecting on a significant few days, Amad told TNT Sports, “Maybe one of the best weeks in my life. I am very happy for this win. This team deserved to win this game so I am very happy.
“I feel good. I am so happy to score my first hat-trick at Old Trafford. But for me, the most important thing was to win this game and I am happy for the club that we could win it.”
Despite facing periods where they appeared outmatched and fortunate to not be further behind at half-time, thanks largely to goalkeeper Andre Onana’s heroics, Amad affirmed the squad’s conviction that they would eventually find their way to victory.
He continued: “I am so happy for the goal against Liverpool and also today. But the most important thing was to win and I am happy for that.
“I think the team believed till the end. Today we showed that we were the best team on the pitch. We were going to win this game and we did it in the end.
“It’s important to win. This gives us the confidence for the next match. We have to keep going like this and play like this. I believe in this team. We can win every match. We showed at the end that we were very good.”
