Ringo Starr on food he’s never eaten and Beatles with Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan

Sir Ringo Starr has just had his first No 1 album in decades with his new Country record Look Up.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, the 84-year-old was quizzed by the host if certain urban myths around him were true or false.

Asked if he’d never eaten pizza, The Beatles drummer replied to a shocked audience: “I’ve never had a pizza or a curry.

“I’m allergic to several items and pizza… you never know what they’re putting in it half the time or the curry.

“So I’m pretty strict with myself because it makes me ill immediately.”

Sir Ringo shared how when The Beatles first toured the USA they hung out with Johnny Cash at their last live show “and he loved it”. And at the end of the show, as the Fab Four were rushed into a truck to get away quick, the Man in Black chased after them too holding back fans yelling ‘Leave them alone!’ The drummer was also asked if it was true if the first time he smoked weed was with Bob Dylan.

Ringo replied: “Yeah. He didn’t personally hand it to me. He had a friend of his in the room who actually handed it to me. Asked if he loved that experience with Dylan, the Beatles legend replied: “Loved it. And after we’d sat round in that room smoking dope, I came out that room into the living room of the hotel and we’d forgotten we’d ordered room service. And so this guy came in wheeling in a couple of trolleys for the four of us and it was like, ‘Oh okay!’ because it makes you a little hungry… I still didn’t eat a pizza.’”
