Chennaiyin FC forward Wilmar Jordan Gil’s red card, which he received during the Indian Super League match against Kerala Blasters, has been changed to a yellow card.
“Wilmar Jordan Gil’s red card against Kerala Blasters FC last Thursday (30-01-2025) has been reduced to a yellow card following an appeal filed by the club. He will be available for selection for the away match against East Bengal on February 8,” Chennaiyin said in a statement on Monday.
The Colombian striker received his marching orders in the 37th minute after pushing Blasters defender Milos Drincic to the ground.
This incident drew ire from the Chennaiyin head coach Owen Coyle, which resulted in a heated argument with Robin Singh, one of the commentators who called the match, during the post-match interview.
The match ended 1-3 in favour of the visiting Kerala Blasters, further denting the Chennai-based side’s playoff chances in the ongoing season.
Coyle’s side, languishing in 11th position in the standings and 10 points adrift of the top six, travels to Kolkata to face East Bengal on Saturday.
