Serena Williams sends message to Taylor Swift over Super Bowl boos

Serena Williams has told Taylor Swift to ignore the boos following the pop star’s appearance at Sunday’s Super Bowl between Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Swift, whose hits include Anti-Hero, Love Story and Shake It Off, was at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce.

Kelce was attempting to help the Chiefs win their third consecutive Super Bowl following their triumphs in 2023 and 2024.

But his team ultimately came up short as the Eagles cruised to a 40-22 victory.

A host of famous faces attended the Super Bowl, with Kendrick Lamar performing the half-time show.

And Donald Trump even turned up to watch the game as he became the first sitting US president to attend a Super Bowl.

Trump and Swift periodically appeared on the stadium’s big screen throughout the match. But the crowd appeared to be much happier to see the politician than they were to witness the singer – and they weren’t afraid to make their feelings known.

The 78-year-old was cheered every time he featured on the screen, while Swift was savagely booed by sections of the 65,000-strong crowd.

Trump rubbed salt in Swift’s wounds when he shared videos showing the crowd’s contrasting reactions on his Truth Social platform. And he wrote: “Trump gets massive cheers at the Super Bowl while Taylor Swift gets booed.”

He later lashed out at the 35-year-old in a separate post as he stated: “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”

And Tesla owner Elon Musk, who is the world’s richest person and has been handed a role in Trump’s government, even got in with a jibe of his own as he exclaimed: “Taylor Swift got mercilessly booed. Trump got a hero’s welcome. Total culture shift.”

But Williams was quick to leap to the defence of Swift as she sent a message to the star on Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) platform. The seven-time Wimbledon champion simply wrote: “I love you @taylorswift13. Don’t listen to those booo!!”

Williams’ words could come as a huge morale boost to Swift, who has sold over 200 million records throughout her music career.

The 43-year-old spent years playing in front of tennis crowds around the world during an illustrious tennis career. She hung up her racket in 2022 after winning 23 Grand Slam titles and will be remembered as one of the greatest players in the history of tennis.
