Arsenal and Bukayo Saka have hinted at a significant injury boost by posting a series of photos showing the England international back in the gym as he recovers from a hamstring tear.
Saka has been sidelined since injuring his leg at Crystal Palace in mid-December, with attacking colleagues Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli subsequently joining him on the injury list, and Mikel Arteta recently confirming that the latter would require a scan for his hamstring problem.
This has led to Arteta’s team struggling for consistency in attack, leaving them trailing Premier League leaders Liverpool, who are currently six points ahead with a game in hand.
Arsenal‘s first-team squad is in Dubai this week for a warm-weather training camp – following their FA Cup exit – and the club has now confirmed that Saka is progressing with his recovery. The player also shared photos of his step up in recovery on social media.
Before his injury, Saka had scored nine goals and provided 13 assists. It is still uncertain when he will be fit enough to return to the starting line-up.
Last week, Arteta confirmed the setback that Martinelli would undergo an MRI on his injured hamstring, while Jesus is expected to miss the rest of the season after tearing his cruciate ligament last month.
Arsenal will aim to bolster their attack in the summer transfer window after manager Arteta expressed his “disappointment” at the club’s failure to strengthen his options in the winter transfer window.
He admitted last week: “We had a clear intention which is always there is a window open to explore the opportunities to improve our squad with players that can impact it.
“We haven’t achieved it so we are disappointed in that sense but as well we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kinds of players and we have to be very disciplined with that and I think we will.”
Meanwhile, reports from Italy hint at Arsenal‘s interest in Moise Kean, the £43m-rated Italian forward, following his successful stint with Fiorentina.
The Gunners’ radar also includes RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but a move for Newcastle‘s Alexander Isak might fall through if the Magpies secure Champions League football.
