Jarrod Bowen in line to make Thomas Tuchel’s England squad after two phone

Jarrod Bowen is in contention to make Thomas Tuchel‘s inaugural England squad after revealing the new Three Lions boss has checked in on him twice to discuss his form and fitness.

The West Ham captain bagged his eighth goal this season, dealing a significant blow to Arsenal‘s title aspirations with a 1-0 win at the Emirates on Saturday.

Bowen disclosed that Tuchel, who has been permitted by the Football Association to work remotely from Germany, has maintained regular contact.

Bowen, who scored his debut international goal for England in a 5-0 victory against the Republic of Ireland to secure Nations League promotion last November, is now hopeful of selection when Tuchel announces his first squad for next month’s World Cup qualifying double-header against Albania and Latvia at Wembley.

The ex-Hull star explained: “Hopefully I’ll be involved – we’ve spoken a couple of times, but all I can do is what I did against Arsenal, try and score goals, play my best every single week and see where it takes me.

“That’s always been my mindset when it comes to the national team. But it’s nice to get those calls.”

Given Bukayo Saka‘s uncertain fitness and Phil Foden‘s struggles to regain form, Bowen is poised to challenge Cole Palmer as a left-footed forward on the right flank for Tuchel’s debut. .

Bowen has been in stellar form on the road for West Ham, scoring in three consecutive Premier League matches away to Southampton, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

Bowen stated: “I want to score in every game, home or away, because goals are what I’m judged on so I want to do it as much as I can. That’s what I’ve been trying to do since I came back from injury.

“It was nice to get the winner (at Arsenal) – I was just trying to get in the box and I don’t think I could have missed that chance, otherwise I might not have played for a couple of weeks!”

Bowen believes that the team is adjusting well to life under new manager Graham Potter, who has brought fresh ideas to the table. He commented: “What has the new manager brought to the team? Just different ideas.

“Sometimes it’s difficult when a new manager comes in six months after the previous one, there’s a different dynamic and we’ve fed off that.

“There have been glimpses in all the games but not at a consistent level and that’s down to the players. We’ve got to do it week in, week out, we’ve got a really important game coming up on Thursday against Leicester where we have to back this performance up.”
