Former Kerala Blasters manager Ivan Vukomanovic does not rule out KBFC return

Former Kerala Blasters manager Ivan Vukomanovic suggested that he has not ruled out a return to the Indian Super League (ISL) club after parting ways with the side last year.

Speaking to Media One on the sidelines of the logo reveal ceremony of the SSL U17 Soccer League in Dubai, the Serbian said that “anything is possible in football,” when asked about taking charge in the ISL again.

“There are many possibilities in football, so you never know. It depends on momentum. I think that we should let them finish the season, calm down for a bit, then later we’ll see,” he said.

At the beginning of the 2024-25 season, he was replaced by Swedish coach Mikael Stahre, who was sacked midway through the campaign after a poor run of results.

Reserve team head coach and head of youth development, Tomasz Tchórz and assistant coach, TG Purushothaman took charge for the remainder of the season.

Speaking about his former side’s struggling form this season, Vukomanovic offered his sympathies and supported the club saying that there is always an opportunity to pull the season back.

“I hope that they will regroup, find a way how it was in the previous three years and then they will again rock and roll and be on top of the table, playing in the playoffs and bringing the cheer and emotion to the fans,” he said.

After joining the club in 2021, Ivan Vukomanovic led KBFC to ISL playoffs consecutively for three years, including an ISL runners-up finish in his maiden season. The Club also recorded its highest points total, and its highest goals scored in a single season in 2022.

KBFC is currently ninth in the table with 24 points from 21 games, eight points off Mumbai City FC in the final playoff spot in sixth.

It will next host Jamshedpur FC in a must-win clash on March 1.
