The toll rate hikes are part of an annual review process linked to changes in the wholesale price index-based inflation. This revision is carried out every year starting from April 1. NHAI revises toll rates for each national highway and expressway separately.
Currently, there are approximately 855 user fee plazas across the national highway network, where fees are collected as per the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. Of these, around 675 are public-funded, while 180 are concessionaire-operated toll plazas.
The toll hike will impact commuters using major routes such as the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, and Delhi-Jaipur Highway, among others.
