Indian sports wrap, April 9: Chandigarh, Punjab secure wins in men’s hockey nationals

HOCKEY

Chandigarh, Telangana, Delhi and Kerala won their matches in Division B while Punjab emerged victorious in Division A on the sixth day of the 15th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2025 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.

In the opening match of the day, Chandigarh defeated Uttarakhand with a commanding scoreline of 9-0 in Pool A of Division B. In the same Pool, Telangana beat Andhra Pradesh 8-2.

In Pool B of Division B, Delhi won against Assam with a thrilling scoreline of 6-4. Kerala won its Pool B match 4-1 over Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu to end the Division B matches.

In Division A, Punjab edged out a 3-2 win in its Pool A match against Odisha. Meanwhile, Manipur and Karnataka played out a 1-1 draw.

India loses against Korea in Asia-Oceania WJT under-14 boys championship

Top seed Korea outplayed India 3-0 in the group-A league match of the Asia-Oceania WJT under-14 boys tennis championship in Kuching, Malaysia, on Wednesday.

The Indian boys, Paranjay Siwach, Viraj Choudhary and Kaustubh Singh could muster only nine games in all from the tie, in three rubbers.

India will next play Australia on Thursday. Pakistan is the other team in the group. The top two teams in each of the four groups will qualify for the quarterfinals.

Korea bt India 3-0 (Kim Siyun bt Paranjay Siwach 6-2, 6-3; Jang Junseo bt Viraj Choudhary 6-0, 6-2; Kim Geonho, Kim Siyun bt Viraj &Kaustuh Singh 6-1, 6-1).

Yashaan clinches five medals at Surge Equestrian League 2025

The 2025 Equestrian season got off to a thrilling start with Yashaan Khambatta from The Amateur Riders’ Club (ARC) clinching five medals over three days at The Surge Equestrian League held from April 4th to 6th at Surge Stables, Bangalore.

The competition featured elite riders from various clubs across India, showcasing their skill and dedication in a top-tier international standard arena.

Yashaan demonstrated consistency and excellence in the Show Jumping category across multiple events, winning 1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals aboard his horses Lord Stakkolensky and Dolce Vita.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Chennaiyin FC begin DSC Football 2025 National Finals on winning note

Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Chennaiyin FC were off to a positive start in the National Finals of the Dream Sports Championship Football 2025 on Tuesday.

While MBSG registered a 2-0 win against RYFC, CFC defeated Dempo SC 2-0.

Mohun Bagan took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute after Monu Rajbanshi got his name on the score sheet. T. Haokip then made it 2-0 in the 90th minute to seal a comfortable win for his side.

In the second fixture of the day, CFC showed thorough dominance to clinch a win. Muhammed Sahir helped his side get off the mark in the initial phase of the second half as he netted the first goal in the 47th minute. Abinash Singh then stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 87th minute to hand CFC a winning start to the U-17 football tournament.
