It seems that Emma Raducanu is not the only WTA tennis player looking for a new coach. American star Peyton Stearns has now confirmed that she, too, is seeking a new mentor after splitting with Tom Hill, and she hasn’t been shy to let fans know about it.
The 23-year-old has struggled so far in the 2025 season, having been plagued by illness earlier in the year. After returning to action, she managed just one win in tournaments in Austin, Indian Wells and Miami before crashing out of the Charleston Open this week. Stearns was beaten 6-4 6-1 by Ajla Tomljanovic before Hill took to Instagram to make a statement.
“After a great 12 months together, I’ve made the decision to end my coaching partnership with Peyton,” he wrote, sharing a photo of them during a match. “I’m incredibly proud of everything we achieved together.
“Her first WTA title, career-high rankings in both singles and doubles and her first Top 10 win. I’m very grateful to have been a part of her journey and to have seen her grow both on and off the court.”
Stearns was far more abrupt with her posts on X, simply saying: “Looking for a new coach… DMs are open.” She also changed the text in her bio to “I play tennis and need a coach.”
She at least got a reply from fellow professional Ons Jabeur. Referencing her specialist shot, the Israeli star inserted a laughter emoji as she wrote: “Do you need a drop shot coach?”
Stearns was outside the world’s top 80 when she hired Hill last April. The appointment immediately paid off, as she duly captured her first WTA Tour title in the Rabat Grand Prix event in Morocco.
She is now up to No.43 in the rankings. However, her best run in a Grand Slam run remains her effort at the 2023 US Open, where she reached the last 16 before losing to Marketa Vondrousova.
