Real Madrid set to cancel open training, press conference after federation rejects referee change request – Reports

Real Madrid is set to cancel its open training and press conference after the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) rejected its request for a change of referees for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, who was scheduled to be the referee for the summit clash, had a breakdown in the referees’ pre-game press conference, speaking about the pressure officials have faced from  Real Madrid TV this season.

In an open letter published by Real Madrid in February, Los Blancos claimed Spanish refereeing was “rigged” and “completely discredited”.

“It’s not right what we are going through, many colleagues, and not just in professional football, but also at the grassroots level,” the 39-year-old said.

According to reports, Real Madrid had submitted a request to the RFEF for a change in officials after the incident but the appeal went against it.
