Arizona Restaurant Shooting Leaves at Least 3 Dead and 5 Injured

At least three people were killed and five people were wounded in a shooting after a fight broke out on Sunday at a crowded outdoor concert venue attached to a restaurant in Arizona, the police said on Monday.

The police in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix, responded at about 7:45 p.m. to calls saying that shots had been fired at the El Camaron Gigante Mariscos & Steakhouse, a spokesman for the Glendale Police Department, Officer Moroni Mendez, told local news stations in a briefing late on Sunday.

Officers found a “chaotic” scene in which multiple people had been shot, he said.

Two of the people who were killed were brothers, ages 17 and 29, a police spokesman, Jose Santiago, said in an emailed statement on Monday. The other person who was killed was 21, he said. Two women, two men and a 16-year-old male were among the injured, he said.

Mr. Santiago said a fight broke out during a concert at an outdoor entertainment space that is part of the restaurant. Those involved were kicked out of the venue and into a parking lot, he said.

“That’s when these individuals began shooting at one another,” he said.

A witness told 12 News late on Sunday that dozens of people, including families with children, were in the restaurant for Cinco de Mayo, an annual celebration that commemorates Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla. Mr. Santiago said investigators have not confirmed that.

“There was anywhere from 200 to 300 people who attended the event, and the connected restaurant was also open for business,” he said in the statement.

So far, there were no arrests, he added.

Investigators were gathering shell casings to determine how many types of weapons were used, he said, “and that will help us narrow down the potential of how many shooters there may be.”
