Tropical Agrosystem India Pvt Ltd, which is in the business of crop protection and nutrition in the chemical and organic segments, will begin construction of its proposed Kharagpur unit in the first week of December, chairman VK Jhaver said.
The Kharagpur unit, to be built on four acres of land, will aim to begin production by the second quarter of the next fiscal, targeting the eastern markets, Jhaver said.
Tropical Agrosystem has a small unit in Sanad, Gujarat, where it produces agro chemicals, biological products and fertilisers.
The company had a turnover of Rs 1,100 crore at the end of October, with the Kolkata market contributing about 10% of it.
“It is important to have a unit in the east so that the supply becomes faster and cost-effective,” Jhaver said. “We are also planning to acquire land in Gujarat for setting up a new unit to cater to the Gujarat market.”
