Mila Gorasia – known simply as Mila – wrote the catchy chorus to ‘Make Me A Goddess’ during a performing arts lesson. The song aims to inspire confidence by telling girls to put on their ‘Goddess crown’ and become whatever they want to be.
Teachers encouraged her to develop the song into a studio-recorded track, which was released on TikTok. It has notched up nearly 5million views on the network and 50,000 streams across platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Tiktok and YouTube.
By comparison, Michael Jackson was first credited as a song writer at age 18, Stevie Wonder started at 11, and Justin Timberlake was creating music with NSYNC by 14.
Mila said: “This isn’t just about me or the song. It’s about showing every girl out there that they can achieve incredible things. The lyrics go ‘I want to be a footballer, I want to be an actress, I want to be everything, I want to be a Goddess’.
“The reason behind these lyrics is because you can be anything you want to be if you just put your mind to it and you put a lot of effort into it. The meaning of that is you can do multiple things. I don’t want anyone to stop me from being any of those.”
Mila is a keen viewer of Biz Kids, a social media and video channel devoted to encouraging entrepreneurialism in school-aged children. She wrote the initial chorus during an online session on confidence which was co-hosted with Stagecoach Performing Arts. Working with the teachers and hosts, the lyric was developed into a song and choreographed dance routine.
Stagecoach Performing Arts provided financial backing for the recording of the song and creation of the music video, and Mila and Biz Kids producer Tash Courtenay-Smith developed the final track.
The finished song was released on TikTok and the streaming channels on May 10. Mila hopes the track is more than just a pop song – and becomes an anthem for young girls around the world.
She lives in North London with her mother Andrea, 51, a human resources director, and father Dev, 49 a company director. Andrea said: “The moment she created ‘Make Me A Goddess’ and it reached over a million views was astonishing.
“Mila is our bubble of fun, constantly reminding us that with effort, anyone can achieve their dreams. The song encourages young girls to recognize and harness their power and potential.”
But despite her venture into pop stardom, Mila says she is just a normal child. “I live in London with my mum, my dad, my brother and my dog. I’m a typical London kid.
“I go to a primary school and I’m in year six. I love to fill my days with different things, art, swimming, football, performing arts. I love my friends, my family and I love to snuggle with my dog Carter every night.”
Tasha Courtenay-Smith, founder of Biz Kids, said: “It’s about building confidence, teaching valuable life skills, and providing a platform for expression
“All of the ideas we have had to promote Make Me A Goddess have come from our Biz Kids, and they included a livestream launch party, Tiktok filters and a Make Me A Goddess cake.
“And of course, some of the world’s greatest entrepreneurs are in fact singer songwriters – take the likes of Taylor Swift for instance, whose businesses range from music through to media and merchandising.”
