Wolfs: George Clooney and Brad Pitt star in trailer
George Clooney and Brad Pitt are teaming up once again in the highly anticipated new crime thriller on Apple TV+, Wolfs.
The latest film from Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts features the Hollywood A-listers as two ‘fixers’ who are forced to work together.
Despite operating as love wolves, the professionals are forced to put their differences aside when they’re both hired to cover up the same high-profile crime.
Also starring Amy Ryan, Euphoria’s Austin Abrams and The Night Of breakout Poorna Jagannathan, Wolfs promises an enthralling balance of thrills and laughs, perfect for an evening’s entertainment this weekend.
But, for movie buffs who want more after checking out this latest offering, what should be on their radar next? Here’s seven more films to check out after Wolfs.
7 movies to watch next after George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s Wolfs
Wise Guys
One of the first movies to feature mob fixers was 1986’s Wise Guys, directed by Scarface filmmaker Brian De Palma.
It stars Danny DeVito and Joe Piscopo as Harry Valentini and Moe Dickstein, errand boys for the mob who somehow lose a whopping $250,000.
When they’re tasked with killing each other they instead decide to jet off to Atlantic City where chaos ensues.
While the film didn’t receive great reviews, check it out for a comedic look at gangsters who are lower down the food chain, plus an appearance from Harvey Keitel, which leads us nicely onto…
Pulp Fiction
Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 masterpiece is heralded by many as the ultimate crime film, featuring four different stories about corruption, kidnapping, murder and cover-ups.
It also features the most iconic depiction of a mob fixer portrayed by Keitel, Winston Wolf, which undoubtedly provided an inspiration for Clooney and Pitt’s characters.
Pulp Fiction is currently available to stream on Netflix, but fans may not know this wasn’t the first time Keitel portrayed a character like this.
This 2011 thriller is a more subtle look at mob cover-ups
Point of No Return
Keitel’s Victor the Cleaner takes a slightly more active role in this 1993 thriller, released just a year before he returned to clean up another hit gone wrong in Pulp Fiction.
We won’t spoil what happens here, but this lesser-known thriller starring Bridget Fonda as an unhinged criminal who escapes execution thanks to a government cover-up is well worth a watch.
Gabriel Byrne, Dermot Mulroney and Miguel Ferrer also star.
Killing Them Softly
Wolfs isn’t the first time Pitt has been hired by the mob to clean up a mess.
In 2011’s subtle thriller Killing Them Softly, he portrays enforcer Jackie Cogan, who’s brought in when a rigged Mafia card game is robbed, sending the local criminal economy spiralling.
Featuring legends of the crime genre like Goodfellas’ Ray Liotta and The Sopranos’ James Gandolfini, this is a must-watch for anyone looking to find out more about the seediest corners of America’s underworld.
The pre-cursor to Ocean’s Eleven could be even better
Ocean’s Eleven
No list of Pitt and Clooney’s best films is complete without the Ocean’s Eleven franchise, one of the 21st Century’s slickest blockbusters which cemented the pair – as well as Matt Damon – as Hollywood royalty.
After finally getting his parole, notorious criminal mastermind Danny Ocean (Clooney) immediately gets to work amassing a team to pull off the most ambitious casino heist ever conceived.
However, his master plan is thrown off its axis when Danny runs into his beautiful ex-wife Tess (Julia Roberts) and her husband, the casino’s owner Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia).
Out of Sight
This underrated romantic thriller from Steven Soderbergh is arguably Clooney’s sexiest film to date – hard to believe when Ocean’s Eleven exists.
Also starring Jennifer Lopez in one of her earliest acting roles, Clooney portrays a charismatic criminal looking to pull off one last heist – three years before he re-teamed with director Soderbergh’s more famous heist film.
While some feel Out of Sight might just be a precursor to the more successful Ocean’s Franchise, it’s so much more than a blueprint and Clooney and Lopez’s chemistry is undeniable.
Clooney’s 2007 legal thriller was nominated for seven Academy Awards
Michael Clayton
This acclaimed crime drama offers a slightly different look at criminal fixers, as Clooney’s titular protagonist is hired by a major New York City law firm to do their dirty work.
When a lawyer has a breakdown over a case involving a chemical company he knows is guilty in a multi-billion dollar class action suit, Michael Clayton is called in to remedy the situation and has his morals put to the test.
Tom Wilkinson, Tilda Swinton, and celebrated director Sydney Pollack make supporting appearances in this Oscar-nominated legal thriller from Tony Gilroy, who went on to write Star Wars spin-offs Rogue One and Disney+’s Andor.
Wolfs is available to stream exclusively on Apple TV+.
