Blackpool Pleasure Beach Resort boasts the coolest ticket in town this summer – as the Daily Express visited their new ‘icetravaganza’ Hot Ice show, Eternity.

Hot Ice is the world’s longest-running skating spectacular, set amid the backdrop of the Lancashire seaside resorts iconic Blackpool Pleasure Beach resort.

Since the Pleasure Beach’s Arena was built in 1936, Hot Ice has marvelled and thrilled millions of visitors for its glitz, glamour, skill and stunts.

But the 2024 spectacular brings a chill to your spine as the beat-pumping music, thrilling acrobatics and colourless costumes may give you the only warm glow you will feel this gloomy British summer.

The show starts like a Game of Thrones scene and as flames lick up the ice rink it really feels like ‘Winter Is Coming’ as the beats kick in for the first number Eternity.

The black costumes resemble those worn by Game of Thrones character Jon Snow in the Night’s Watch, as these black clad near Vikings tear through the ice to the music.

Another number Desire sees dancers clad in black and gold sequins skate to a Beethoven’s 7th Symphony riff, while Zodiac uses the music of Holst’s The Planets.

The music genre changes for each of the 15 different numbers from a James Bond theme-style for One Kiss, to an energetic dance track for Techno where the cast don dazzling pink and blue check outfits.

One song is a link to the resorts famous indoor water rollercoaster Valhalla, while another Clocks is a moving, sultry scene with just two dancers skating their passion across the ice.

Choreographed by the Hot Ice veteran, the renowned skating coach Oula Jaaskelainen and his assistant Lynsey Brown – ‘Eternity’ will live long in your memory.

Oula, a former Olympic athlete and Hot Ice cast member, encourages the performers to skate at high speeds with intricate footwork and spine-tingling jumps – with even the odd back flip or two.

Created by the talented Stageworks Worldwide Productions wardrobe team, the show’s breath-taking costumes are undoubtedly the best you will see anywhere in the theatre world – packed with feathers, rhine stones and glitz.

Russian gymnast Alexey Kofanov, a Pleasure Beach regular in Hot Ice, shows off his impressive skills at different points in the show – with one sultry bath scene a play on the 1983 movie Flashdance.

While among Eternity’s 32 international skaters is Canadian superstar Simon Proulx-Sénécal, 32, who wowed ITV Dancing On Ice viewers earlier this year when he came fifth along with ex Love Islander Amber Davies.

As well as starring on Dancing on Ice, Simon also competed at the 2022 winter Olympics with partner Tina Garabedian for Armenia.

The pair are also the 2015 Golden Spin of Zagreb bronze medallists and reached the free dance at two European Championships.

Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort – who produces Hot Ice – said: “Simon is back for another year and we are so excited to have him.

“We really do hand-pick the best selection of skaters from across the globe, and Simon’s achievements on and off-screen really demonstrate his sheer talent.

“This is an opportunity for the public to see Simon in a way they’ve never seen him before. He’ll be swapping the score cards and public votes for high-speed, high-skill athleticism.

“We bring together the very best skaters to combine sport and theatre, and put on a truly mesmerising show.”

Hot Ice, I’m ready for you!”

Hot Ice Eternity runs from now until September 7, and has a mixture of evening or matinee performances.
