LEGO Fortnite is getting a new game mode as part of this week’s big content update.
LEGO Fortnite Expeditions has been given a June 18 release date, where it will launch alongside update 36.10, which is the first major update of the latest season.
Available for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 and Android, the new game mode sees four players team up to complete missions and defeat enemies.
Epic Games explains more: “LEGO Fortnite Expeditions is a new PvE experience where you and up to three other players can dive into challenging Missions. All on a quest to stop the evil Mask Maker Daigo from destroying the world!
“The Supernova Academy will act as your base of operations and will host other aspiring heroes playing at the same time.
“Explore the academy and interact with faculty/staff like academy founder Vengeance Jones and hero-turned-mentor Hope to piece together the strange events of what’s happening.”
Users will be able to pick from three different character classes, including Shadow Caller, The Hunter and Rift Ripper. You can switch classes at the academy by accessing a portal.
The Shadow Caller class can fly over the battlefield and summon a projectile that damages enemies and heals allies. Shadow Caller, meanwhile, lets you escape the battlefield by transforming into ravens.
The Hunter, on the other hand, can deal massive damage with the Bull’s-eye Blade weapon, all the while closing the gap on enemies using the grappler. The Hunter’s Trap Dodge deals damage while interrupting enemy attacks.
Finally, Rift Rippers use Rift Shards to deal damage to single enemies and Rift Crystals for wide-range damage. Rift Crystals will also provide increased damage and armour augments to all nearby Rift Rippers and smaller buffs to teammates. Rift Rippers can also Rift Jump to reach high places, and Rift Dodge to escape from danger.
Hero Classes and enemies will come to other LEGO Fortnite game modes such as Odyssey in July.
In terms of gameplay, Expeditions primarily revolves around tackling waves of enemies and completing missions.
Players can also explore the map and aid citizens with various problems. That’s on top of finding chests and unlocking new gear.
Locations on the map include Utopia City, the Spire Excavation Site and Busted Bridge. According to Epic Games, more locations will be added in the future.
Enemies, meanwhile, include sentient Spires, Light and Heavy Demon Guards, plus huge Titans that must be tackled in teams.
