Amazon Prime Video to quietly remove ‘creepy’ thriller starring Harry Styles

A 2022 thriller featuring Harry Styles, Don’t Worry Darling, is set to depart from Prime Video this month, leaving subscribers with only a few days left to watch it.

The film, directed by co-star Olivia Wilde, will be taken off the streaming service on Monday, March 31. It stars former One Direction singer Styles and Oscar-nominated actress Florence Pugh as a married couple, Jack and Alice.

Set in the America of the 1950s, the story unfolds in an idyllic desert town named Victory. The men of the town work at a mysterious facility while the women stay home, fulfilling traditional housewife roles.

However, when Alice starts noticing odd behaviour from one of the town’s wives, she begins to uncover the disturbing truth behind their husbands’ work.

Before its release, the movie piqued audience interest with its eerie premise and star-studded cast. However, upon release, it failed to win over critics, reports Surrey Live.

Rotten Tomatoes critics gave the thriller a disappointing 38 percent rating, with the consensus stating: “Despite an intriguing array of talent on either side of the camera, Don’t Worry Darling is a mostly muddled rehash of overly familiar themes.”

Casual viewers also noted that Don’t Worry Darling revisits feminist themes previously explored in the cult classic film The Stepford Wives, in which a woman relocates to a charming town and discovers a dark conspiracy involving the local husbands.

Audiences have diverged from critic opinions, rewarding the thriller with a commendable 74 percent approval rating, and attributing the standout performances of the cast as a key highlight.

One satisfied audience member remarked: “Pugh and Styles rose above the noise in their own ways, great on screen chemistry, should have been given the acknowledgment they deserved. Very entertaining with a message that stays long after you leave the theatre. If you haven’t seen it yet, do so.”

Another enthusiast leapt to the movie’s defence, asserting: “I’m sorry, these critics are obviously either biased or completely insane! This was a wonderful movie, BEAUTIFULLY shot, great story and soundtrack, and both Florence and Harry are incredible! I am completely shocked by the critics’ reviews!”

Meanwhile, praise flowed on IMDB with another comment: “This is such a weird and cool movie. It’s creepy and haunting but not in a horror kind of way. The story is fully intriguing.”

The star-studded ensemble includes Chris Pine (Star Trek), Gemma Chan (Humans), Kiki Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), and the film’s director Wilde (Babylon), adding to the film’s allure.
