Destiny 2 servers down for Final Shape maintenance: Destiny offline for 24 hours

The Destiny 2 Final Shape update is out now on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Update 8.0.0.1 is available to download on all platforms, although you won’t actually be able to check out the new content until server downtime comes to an end. And that’s where things take a turn for the worse, because Destiny 2 will be offline for more than 24-hours! Indeed, according to developer Bungie, Destiny maintenance will begin in full at 5.30pm BST UK time on June 3. The Destiny 2 servers won’t be back online until 6pm BST UK time on June 4, which is when fans can login and queue for matchmaking. Maintenance ends in full at 8pm BST, which is when you should be able to play the new content without any issues. If you’re trying to login during the downtime, you’ll be greeted with a message telling you that your version of Destiny is no longer available.

The news was announced by Bungie on X (formerly Twitter), alongside a warning that the current year of content is coming to an end.

“Year 6 of Destiny 2 will conclude on June 3, 2024 at 9am PT,” reads a Bungie tweet. “Year 7 of Destiny 2 will begin with the launch of The Final Shape on June 4, 2024.”

To ensure you can start playing the moment Destiny 2 servers come back online, you’ll want to download and install the latest update.

In addition to adding the new Final Shape content, update 8.0.0.1 will also make a variety of universal changes available to all players.

This includes the new Pathfinder system, which is said to consolidate bounties, patrols, and weekly vendor challenges into one streamlined system.

The aim is to make it easier to track your objectives, and to give users more agency in deciding what to go after.

Needless to say, completing all of a pathfinder objectives unlocks a variety of rewards, from Engrams and XP, to Exotics and Vendor Reputation.

Elsewhere, Bungie will make some quality of life improvements to the Quests tab.

Bungie explains more: “Starting on June 4, players will be able to set any quest category on the left column as the default when you enter the Quests tab.

“At the same time, all milestones will now show up on the Quests tab, although they will not count against the total amount of quests and bounties that a player can hold in their inventory and will still be able to hold up to 63 in total.”

Bungie has also integrated reputation boosts into the ritual activities nodes at the top of the Director screen, all the while making it easier to view buffs, debuffs and weapon info.

Destiny 2 fans who purchase The Final Shape will also be able to access a new campaign, complete with new locations, as well as unlock additional weapons and items.
