Elden Ring Nightreign release date, launch times and day-one update

FromSoftware fans are just hours away from being able to play a brand new game set in the Elden Ring universe.

Elden Ring Nightreign is a multiplayer-focused action game in which teams of three team up to hunt for powerful items and tackle bosses. The game can also be played solo, although early reviews suggest it’s best played with friends.

Elden Ring Nightreign has a May 30 release date for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam). As you can see from the global release schedule further down the page, the game will be playable at midnight BST for fans living in the UK. The PC version will be available slightly earlier, launching at 11pm BST on May 29.

As confirmed by FromSoftware, pre-order customers can actually pre-load the game ahead of launch.

PlayStation, Xbox and PC pre-loading went live 48 hours before the release of the game, which means you can download and install it now. This will ensure you can start playing the moment servers go live.

According to various posts on X, the game only weighs in at around 20GB, so it shouldn’t take too long to install, even if you forget to pre-load.

It’s also worth pointing out that pre-load customers will need to download and install a day-one update containing various fixes.

The patch improves the handling of playable characters, adds new tunes to the soundtrack, adjusts text and makes various balance changes.

Interestingly, the new update is also said to add a selection of character scenarios. Fans will need to download and install the update in order to connect to the servers and play online.

Set in a universe parallel to the events of Elden Ring, Nightreign tasks players with outlasting a three day-and-night cycle, culminating in a boss battle at the end of the adventure.

It’s described as a “condensed action RPG”, where players will never experience the same journey twice.

There’s a roguelike element to the game, with players earning relics to to customise and upgrade their characters for future runs and increase stats.

The action is also limited to a version of Elden Ring starting area Limgrave, although it looks like the locations will shift during each playthrough.
