Fortnite developer Epic Games has taken the game offline for the release of update 34.40. The latest period of server downtime began at 9am BST UK time on the morning of April 22.
While server downtime is never good news, the one shining light is that fans can download and install a new update during the maintenance. You’ll need to install the update in order to play the game once downtime comes to an end.
The news was announced by Epic Games on X, alongside a separate tweet previewing the new TMNT crossover.
“Downtime for v34.40 begins at 4 AM ET with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand,” reads an Epic tweet.
Fortnite server downtime typically lasts for a couple of hours, which means you should be able to start playing from around 11am BST. However, the Epic Games Status website suggests maintenance will last for four hours, which would see downtime come to an end at 1pm BST.
In terms of what fans can expect, the new update will introduce a new TMNT crossover. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover was teased by Epic Games on X. You can check out the teaser below.
With downtime ongoing, new Fortnite skins have been discovered as part of the latest update.
This includes a host of TMNT skins, including Casey Jones, Krang’s Android, Bebop and Rocksteady.
There’s also a new skin based on Jenna Ortega, as well as a C-3PO skin believed to be launching next season.
The Borderlands bundle is also expected to return, alongside the Terminator skins and more.
