A horror film touted as the ‘most terrifying film’ of last year, which has been causing sleepless nights for viewers, is now available for streaming.
Popular sequel, Smile 2, has just been added to Paramount+’s exclusive catalogue.
The streaming platform is renowned for hosting shows like South Park, Frasier and Star Trek, and also boasts a diverse range of films available to stream via its dedicated app.
Alternatively, users can subscribe through an add-on subscription via Amazon Prime Video.
Regrettably for UK viewers, at the time of writing, the original film is only available for rent through digital storefronts.
However, the sequel should still satisfy horror enthusiasts even without having seen the first instalment.
Picking up from where the 2022 release left off, Smile 2 sees the curse from the first film passed onto pop sensation Skye Riley, portrayed by Naomi Scott, just as she’s gearing up for a major global comeback tour.
Besieged by escalating horrors and the pressures of stardom, she must confront her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control, reports the Mirror.
The movie also features You actor Lukas Gage, alongside Rosemarie DeWitt, Kyle Gallner, Miles Guiterrez-Riley and Ray Nicholson, son of Jack Nicholson. Although the sequel didn’t fare as well at the box office, it did earn a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than its predecessor, with an impressive 86%.
Cinema goers dubbed it the most terrifying film of 2024, with social media abuzz with frightened fans sharing their views online.
One fan exclaimed: “Smile 2 blew me away! An award-worthy step-up in every way to the original: magnificent cinematography, clever jump scares, bloody, gnarly imagery and thematic depth surrounding grief, trauma and guilt. Career-best performance from Naomi Scott. 2024’s best horror film. Damn!”
Another chimed in on the scare-fest saying: “Smile 2 delivers a fantastic story and amazing imagery. The plot, although predictable, was thoroughly enjoyable. The jump scares are so well done, I nearly dropped my popcorn twice, but what ultimately sells it is the amazing portrayal of Skye and her trauma by Naomi Scott.”
Meanwhile, TikTok saw an influx of disturbed filmgoers who recorded their immediate panic post-screening, warning others of insomnia-inducing terror.
A horrified viewer posted on TikTok: “I am not sleeping tonight. Walking out of the Smile 2 movie, I am never ever recovering. The most disturbing thing I have ever seen.”
While another shared their dread stating: “I’m not sleeping for a week. Just saw Smile 2. That was nothing like the first one. Traumatised doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel. It was so good but so horrifying and unexpected.”
This user further elaborated on the chilling experience: “It was unpredictable, terrifying and I never had so much whiplash in my life. On another note, Naomi Scott gave an Oscar award winning performance.”
Smile 2 is streaming on Paramount+.
