I’ve read 15 books from 1 author this year—they got me out of a reading slump

I love reading, but if the book isn’t gripping enough, I get super bored and distracted. In recent years, books have taken me around three months to finish because they didn’t get me hooked quickly enough, which put me off reading. That was until this year, when I discovered Freida McFadden, an American thriller author who is a practising physician specialising in brain injury.

Although Freida is not her real name, her debut novel was released in 2013, but I didn’t start reading her books until this year, when The Housemaid became popular on social media. I’m now hooked on her content, and I’ve read around 15 of her books this year.

The Housemaid is the first in a four-part series. It is a psychological thriller about a housemaid, Millie, who begins working for the wealthy Winchester family.

It’s sold over two million copies, and the unbelievably twisty read had me glued from the first chapter, which is incredibly rare.

In fact, this book had me on the edge of my seat so much that I read it in two sittings and finished it in just two days.

I have also read the second in the series, The Housemaid’s Secret, which continues to follow Millie on her adventures, and it was just as gripping.

After reading five of Freida books, I thought I would begin to work out the twists and turns in the novels, but I just couldn’t, which kept me engaged with the book.

A more recent read was Never Lie, which was about newlyweds Tricia and Ethan, who were searching for their house of dreams.

They think they’ve found it in the remote manor that once belonged to Dr Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who years ago vanished without a trace, and although the twist wasn’t unveiled until the very end, it was an incredible read.

Never Lie can be purchased at Waterstones for £9.99 and I’d highly recommend it if you’re in a reading slump.

I have to credit Freida for getting me out of a reading slump, trying a new genre of book, as well as enjoying reading once again.

Other great reads from the author include The Tenant, The Inmate, The Boyfriend and The Surrogate Mother.

If you’re into fast-paced, entertaining thrillers, you’ll highly enjoy Fredia’s books.
