Netflix has just added a unique horror spectacle to its extensive library, based on the much-loved franchise.
Five Night’s At Freddy’s is available for streaming from today (August 29), and with a sequel set to hit cinemas later this year, it’s the perfect opportunity for movie buffs to get up to speed before its release.
The film is an adaptation of the video game of the same name, originally created by solo developer Scott Cawthon.
After receiving negative reviews for his previous project, which critics claimed was unintentionally terrifying due to its animatronic-like characters, Cawthon decided to intentionally create a horror game featuring animatronics as the main characters.
Launched on PC in 2014, it became an unexpected success, with a console release following in 2019. The game has since spawned a successful franchise with 10 sequels released over the past decade, along with eight spin-off titles.
Its popularity eventually led to a big screen adaptation in 2023. The plot follows the original game’s premise, where a troubled security guard starts working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.
However, he soon realises that surviving the night shift at Freddy’s will be no easy task,
The film might not have received a warm welcome from critics upon its initial release, but it has proven to be a tremendous success amongst audiences.
This is particularly true for those who are familiar with and cherish the original source material reports the Mirror.
Taking to social media to express their views, one enthusiast wrote: “Five Nights at Freddy’s, the beloved video game franchise, has made its highly anticipated leap to the big screen, and it did not disappoint. The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie takes all the suspense, terror, and mystique of the games and brings it to life in a way that will send chills down your spine and keep you on the edge of your seat.”
Another supporter, echoing similar sentiments, commented: “Now this is a one of a kind horror spectacle. Imagine being tasked with directing and adapting this dark kid-themed, highly popular video game to the silver screens. Wow! ! An admirable challenge -conquered in my opinion.”
They went on to say: “Truly, this is one thrilling, jump scare experience… as with playing the game. Kudos to director Emma Tammi and cast and crew for successfully and effectively bringing this point-and-click survival horror by Scott Cawthon to life! !”.
A further viewer heaped praise upon the cinematic adaptation, declaring: “The iconic indie horror game that has captivated gamers for years, has finally made its way to the big screen, and what a remarkable journey it has been.
“This film adaptation is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece, blending heart-pounding suspense, impeccable storytelling, and a genuine love for the source material. Director Emma Tammi has delivered a brilliant homage to the franchise that will thrill fans and newcomers alike.”
