PlayStation Plus subscribers are eagerly waiting for Sony to unveil the free PS4 and PS5 Essentials for July 2024. Barring any last minute changes or leaks (like last month’s Days of Play event), the next batch of PS Plus Essentials will be officially unveiled at 4.30pm BST UK time on the afternoon of June 26. Of course, you won’t actually be able to play the games until the following Tuesday (July 2), although that does at least give you enough time to redeem the current crop of games, including Streets of Rage 4, AEW Fight Forever and SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake. Without any leaks to go by, fans have been attempting to predict the PS Plus Essentials line-up for July 2024.
Indeed, in the monthly predictions thread over on Reddit, multiple fans believe Call of Duty Vanguard will finally make an appearance on PlayStation Plus.
Call of Duty games regularly feature on PS Plus, especially during the summer months. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War joined the service last July, so don’t be surprised if Vanguard follows suit.
Other games with multiple predictions include Like a Dragon Ishin, which takes the franchise back to Japan’s Edo Period.
While it’s lacking the arcade mini-games of its forebears, Like a Dragon Ishin is packed with side content, including gambling and karaoke.
Regular picks such as Resident Evil Village, Forspoken, Dead Island 2, Hades and Sonic Frontiers also appear multiple times.
Sonic Frontiers is one of the more popular picks for July, and with Sonic X Shadow Generations launching later this year, now definitely feels like the right time for the open-world platform game to join the service.
Sonic Frontiers is a typically divisive entry in the Sonic series, featuring a mixture of open-world exploration and classic levels.
“Worlds are colliding in Sonic the Hedgehog’s newest high-speed adventure!” reads the official description.
“In search of the missing Chaos emeralds, Sonic becomes stranded on an ancient island teeming with unusual creatures. Battle hordes of powerful enemies as you explore a breathtaking world of action, adventure, and mystery.
“Accelerate to new heights and experience the thrill of high-velocity, open-zone platforming freedom as you race across the five massive Starfall Islands. Jump into adventure, wield the power of the Ancients, and fight to stop these new mysterious foes. Welcome to the evolution of Sonic games!”
Interestingly, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has a few picks, despite only launching a few months ago.
The superhero game was such a big flop that an appearance on PS Plus wouldn’t surprise us.
