Spider-Man 4 gets huge update after No Way Home becomes smash hit

Following the monumental success of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, it appears that the next chapter in the Spider-Man saga is on the horizon.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is reportedly in early discussions to direct the fourth film, according to Deadline.

The report also suggests that previous stars Tom Holland and Zendaya have been in contact with executives and producers, with new contracts expected to be offered soon.

Spider-Man: No Way Home shattered numerous records upon its release in 2021, with Tom reprising his role as Peter Parker for the third time.

The film raked in over $1.9 billion worldwide against a budget of $200 million, surpassing its predecessor, Spider-Man: Far From Home, which earned a respectable $1.133 billion in 2019, reports the Mirror.

The Marvel blockbuster became the highest-grossing film of 2021 and the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time at the time of release.

In addition to setting records for films released during the COVID-19 pandemic, it also became the highest-grossing Spider-Man film.

Tom first donned the Spider-Man suit in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, following Andrew Garfield’s two-film stint as the Amazing Spider-Man and Tobey Maguire’s portrayal in Sam Raimi’s trilogy.

After Deadline broke the news that Destin is in negotiations to helm the fourth chapter, legions of fans have been flooding Reddit with their reactions.

One exclaimed: “Surprising choice, but I like it. Action sequences are gonna be amazing. Maybe we’ll get Shang-Chi as the MCU guest star or have Mister Negative as the villain. Also, finally, we’re starting to hear actual reports about this movie.”

Another fan eagerly wrote on Reddit: “This is a fantastic choice! He’s gonna elevate the action pieces for sure. I’ve Liked Watts action scenes, but they do leave a lot to be desired.” (sic)

They continued: “I want more of Goblin apartment fight style scenes than overly CGI spectacle. Spider-Man is able to make both work, just need a better balance.” (sic)

A third chimed in: “Happy about this in many ways. Tom is back, solid director, solid writers. Can’t wait.” Meanwhile, a fourth shared: “Great choice, I really want Shang-Chi 2 but this is a great pick. The action should be fantastic.” (sic)
