Star Wars 50th anniversary new movie announced with huge Hollywood A-lister

Star Wars Celebration 2025 has kicked off in Japan, unveiling a first look at The Mandalorian and Grogu movie (May 22, 2026).

But if that wasn’t enough, Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool and Wolverine, has announced a new film.

Ryan Gosling will star in Star Wars: Starfighter, which will hit cinemas on May 28, 2027, the same week as the 50th anniversary of the original 1977 film, A New Hope.

The standalone adventure takes place five years after the events of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker and will feature some characters from the sequel trilogy.

If that wasn’t enough, at least six other Star Wars movies are in the works.

X-Men’s Simon Kinberg is working on a new Star Wars trilogy, while James Mangold’s prequel set 25,000 years before A New Hope is still in the works. Additionally, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey movie, set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, now has George Nolfi writing the screenplay. Furthermore, Taiki Waititi is working on the script of his mystery Star Wars film.
