The Nicolas Cage film named in top 3 ‘worst of all time’ – 0% on Rotten Tomatoes

Rotten Tomatoes has named this Nicolas Cage movie in the top three worst films of all time, giving it a shocking 0% rating.

Left Behind was released in 2014 and is an American Christian apocalyptic thriller film directed by Vic Armstrong and written by Paul LaLonde with John Patus. It is based on the novel of the same name written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, published in 1995. The film stars Nicolas Cage, Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, Nicky Whelan, Jordin Sparks, and Lea Thompson.

The film’s synopsis reads: “The entire planet is thrown into mayhem when millions of people disappear without a trace — all that remains are their clothes and belongings. Unmanned vehicles crash and planes fall from the sky, overwhelming emergency forces and causing massive gridlock, riots and chaos. Airline pilot Ray Steele (Cage) struggles to save the lives of the passengers who remain on his flight, while his daughter (Thomson) races to find her brother and mother, both of whom have disappeared.”

The film has a shocking 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and comes in at number three in Rotten Tomatoes’ “100 Worst Movies of All Time” ranking.

The critics’ consensus states: “Yea verily, like unto a plague of locusts, Left Behind hath begat a further scourge of devastation upon Nicolas Cage’s once-proud filmography.”

A top critic said: “The effects are hilarious, the sets are rinky-dink, and the character names are funnier than a full season of ‘Big Bang Theory,’ and the “narrative arc” of our heroine is laughably predictable.”

Another critic said: “The movie unravels in its own destruction. Every effort to milk the tragedy of the apocalypse is met with terrible music, acting and effects that soak (and drown) the pathos in camp fare.”

“Cage is a practitioner of the Nouveau Shamanic school of acting, but here he has dialled it down perhaps out of respect to the religious nature of the material, or perhaps he’s saving the wild stuff for Con Air 2: This Time it’s Biblical,” a third added.

To make your own judgement, you can watch Left Behind (2014) on Amazon Prime right now.
