The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will elect its new joint secretary during a Special General Meeting (SGM) at its headquarter here on March 1. The post has been lying vacant since Devajit Saikia was elevated as the secretary last month.
The BCCI on Friday emailed the single-point agenda for the SGM to all its affiliates. Just like the last month’s AGM — where Saiki and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were unanimously elected as secretary and treasurer, respectively — the March 1 election is also set to be a formality.
With Ashish Shelar — the former treasurer having resigned due to his induction in the Maharashtra cabinet — and Jay Shah — the former secretary having taken over as the International Cricket Council chair — a candidate from the west zone is set to be roped in as the joint secretary. Mumbai Cricket Association vice-president Sanjay Naik is a front-runner for the post.
The election process will kickstart early next week.
