Champions Trophy 2025: We pride ourselves on being as adaptable as possible, says Phillips on facing India

New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips believes his side has all its bases covered ahead of his team’s final league stage match against India here on Sunday (March 2, 2025).

“In terms of scouting and things going on, we have our game plans coming up against India. We do have a lot of bases covered, regardless of the situation that we are going to be facing against,” said Phillips.

On meeting India at a venue where run-scoring has not been easy and their opponent having already played two games, the 28-year-old was confident about his team’s plans.

“(It will be about) how can we rotate strike and take the game deep and give ourselves a chance to launch an attack at death to put a competitive score on the board. If we are chasing, it becomes crucial to limit those dot balls in the middle overs with how good their spinners are,” explained Phillips on the way to tackle Indian tweakers.

The Black Caps have been in Pakistan for three weeks playing a tri-series and the first two games of this tournament. Coming to UAE, Phillips was confident of adapting to the new conditions.

“I think we pride ourselves on being as adaptable as possible. That doesn’t necessarily mean everything is foolproof and that we are always going to come out on top. To be able to come to a new situation in a new environment, we rise to the challenge and always fight no matter what,” said Phillips.
