The high-flying English side received another boost as pacer Jofra Archer, on Thursday, was named in the squad for the Birmingham Test against India from July 2. The 30-year-old last played a Test in 2021, also against India in Ahmedabad.

The 30-year-old’s injury-ravaged body, which is being carefully managed with the Ashes also looming later this year, was put through a First Class county fixture – a first in four years – just a few days ago as Sussex took on Durham from June 22 to 25.

The squad: Ben Stokes (Capt.), Jofra Archer, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue and Chris Woakes.
