Perth Scorchers have unveiled a shock new signing for Sunday’s season opener against Melbourne Stars: Spud King Tony Galati.
The West Australian icon will bowl the ceremonial first ball at Optus Stadium moments before the Scorchers return for their first match of the season.
The Spudshed owner will bowl a ball alongside the pitch after the bat-flip on Sunday night.
And he posed for pictures alongside Scorchers star Aaron Hardie and new import Finn Alllen, holding a potato rather than a cricket ball.
He even has his very own Scorchers shirt made up for him, with Spud King on the back.
Perth’s favourite golfer Min Woo Lee was among the stars to roll down a first ball last Big Bash League season.
A crowd of around 35,5000 is expected to flock to the club’s first game of the season against their long-time rivals.
The match is also the club’s Wild West Round, which will feature country and western themed music and food at the stadium.
Players including Allen and ‘Wild Thing’ Lance Morris even tried their hand at whip-cracking at the WACA Ground on Friday.
