Bangladesh and Pakistan have had World Test Championship points deducted and players fined for slow over-rates during Bangladesh’s 10-wicket win in the first Test.
The International Cricket Council have also fined Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan 10 per cent of his match fee and he imposed one demerit point for a Level 1 breach of the code of conduct.
Pakistan lost six points for bowling six overs short at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium where Bangladesh notched a first ever Test victory against Pakistan. Bangladesh lost three points for bowling three overs too few.
Pakistan players were also fined 30 per cent of their match fees while Bangladesh players were penalised 15 per cent. Pakistan captain Shan Masood and Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto pleaded guilty and accepted the sanctions with no need for a formal hearing.
Shakib was punished for throwing the ball at Mohammad Rizwan in frustration during the fifth and final day after the batter had backed away as the bowler was about to deliver. The throw flew above the head of Rizwan to wicketkeeper Litton Das.
The ICC said Shakib was found guilty by match referee Ranjan Madugalle and Shakib accepted the sanctions.
Pakistan have dropped to eighth in the WTC standings just ahead of bottom-placed West Indies while Bangladesh are seventh behind South Africa.
