Vaibhav Suryavanshi reveals the lengths his parents went to before IPL century

Cricket’s latest breakout star Vaibhav Suryavanshi has spoken about the sacrifices his parents made to ensure that he could attend his practice sessions. The 14-year-old made history earlier this week, becoming the youngest player to hit a century in men’s T20s.

Suryavanshi has enjoyed a sensational rise, earning his first IPL contract when he was just 13. The teen is now justifying such an immense show of faith from the Rajasthan Royals.

Suryavanshi hit a sensational century off just 35 balls as the Royals successfully chased down Gujarat Titans’ 209 with 25 balls to spare, hitting the second-fastest IPL century of all time. In doing so, the wonderkid also broke the record for the fastest ton ever scored by an Indian player in the tournament.

The left-hander will hope to continue his rapid rise over the coming competitions. He has already spoken at length about the key role that his family has played in his success in his short career so far.

Speaking to the Indian Premier League, Suryavanshi explained the sacrifices that his family made for him on his way to becoming an exciting IPL prospect. He said: “Whoever I am today, it is because of my parents.

“My mother used to wake up at 2 and go to sleep at 11 (PM) because of my practice and then used to make food for me too. My father left his job for me and now my brother is taking care of things. Things were very difficult at home, but God looks after those who aren’t able to succeed despite putting in hard work. Whatever result that I see today, whatever success I attain is all because of my parents.”

Suryavanshi will be hoping that his century is just the start of his upward trajectory in the IPL, but former India cricket star Virender Sehwag believes that the teenager should keep a lid on his emotions – especially when it comes to money and records.

He told Cricbuzz: “I have seen many players who come, get fame from one or two matches, then they do not do anything, because they think that they have become a star player. Look at Virat Kohli. He started at 19 and has now played all 18 IPL seasons. That’s what Vaibhav should aim for. But if he thinks he’s made it just because he hit a six off his first ball and earned a crore, he might not be around next season.”
