Abhishek Singh gets India call-up, replaces Asish Rai for March International Window

Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s Asish Rai will be replaced by Tekcham Abhishek Singh in the Indian men’s football team squad for the upcoming March FIFA International Window, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced on Monday.

“Asish Rai, who has sustained an injury, will be replaced by Abhishek Singh Tekcham for the March 2025 FIFA International Window,” the AIFF said on its Instagram account.

Moreover, Abhishek became the first Punjab FC player to get a senior national team call-up to the India squad.

The 20-year-old full-back from Manipur, who has been slotted either in the left-back or the left midfielder spot this season, started 22 matches in the Indian Super League for the Shers. He helped the side keep three clean sheets. He also saw out Punjab’s final league stage match in the ISL – a 2-2 draw against Mohammedan Sporting.

While the kind and seriousness of Asish’s injury is unknown, he was part of an imperious Mariners squad which rampaged through to defend its League Shield title, capping off a successful regular season with a 2-0 win over FC Goa.
