Amorim’s backing in Man Utd boardroom speaks volumes as one club ‘surprised’

Ruben Amorim’s successful handling of Marcus Rashford‘s departure from Manchester United is a testament to the board’s confidence in him. Despite Rashford scoring in Amorim’s first two Premier League matches as head coach, their relationship gradually deteriorated.

The Portuguese was dissatisfied with Rashford’s performances in training, leading to his exclusion from the first team. Consequently, Rashford, who has been at Old Trafford since he was just seven years of age, moved to Aston Villa on an initial loan deal earlier this month.

Reports suggest that throughout the drawn-out Rashford saga, the United board remained steadfast in their support for recently-appointed boss Amorim, indicating their commitment to the 40-year-old.

The Independent reports that one major club was taken aback by Rashford’s switch to Villa Park, citing an expectation that the player would move abroad. The report also stated that Amorim had the ‘full backing’ of United’s hierarchy to let go the forward.

When questioned about Rashford’s departure earlier this week, Amorim seemed to confirm this. The head coach admitted that the decision to loan out Rashford, along with similar arrangements for left-back Tyrell Malacia and winger Antony, were entirely his call.

“The important thing is that I’m here saying that was my decision, like Ty [Malacia] and Antony, was my decision to do these loans and to keep some players even without any transfers,” he asserted.

Amorim also shed light on why Rashford found himself out of favour at the club, revealing a fundamental mismatch in their football philosophies.

“I couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” he explained (via the Mirror). “It’s something that you feel as a coach and as a player. It’s quite normal. It happened with a lot of coaches.

“Sometimes you have one player that is really good with one coach, and the same player with another coach is different. I wish the best to Rashford and to [Villa manager] Unai Emery, and they can connect because he’s a very good player.”
