Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is reportedly set to finalise two deals as the Gunners edge closer to their eighth summer signing. It has been a productive window for the north Londoners, who have spent around £253million on seven new players. The likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze have all joined the club since the end of last season.
There is still plenty of time for more business to be done before the transfer window slams shut on Monday. A handful of players could leave the Emirates Stadium over the coming days with Mikel Arteta reportedly eager to trim his squad. In terms of incomings, at least one marquee signing could be made ahead of the deadline.
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, according to The Athletic. He has been linked with the Gunners for a while and looks set to join their ranks before the end of the window.
It is said to be an initial season-long loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the campaign. Arsenal will pay around £45m to land Hincapie and a significant sell-on clause has reportedly been inserted into the deal.
The next step for Hincapie will be to undergo a medical with his new club in the coming days. It could be one in and one out at the Emirates Stadium with Berta said to be in the process of closing another transfer.
Jakub Kiwior is set to join Porto as part of a deal with a similar structure, according to Fabrizio Romano. The obligation to buy is set at £22.4m with the final details of the move being thrashed out on both sides.
Kiwior performed well towards the end of last season when he stepped in for the injured Gabriel Magalhaes. He will be hoping to take on a more prominent role at Porto, having been deemed surplus to requirements by the Gunners.
Arteta recently said that he was pleased with Arsenal‘s summer business, telling Sky Sports: “I’m very happy. A lot has happened during the summer Obviously, we were losing some big players as well.
“I really like what we have done. The type of characters, personalities that we have recruited. We have increased the quality and depth of the squad at the same time and especially the way they have connected.
“The culture we have set here is really strong and I think they can feel it straight away. The way we train, the way we operate and the resources we have to look after our people as well.
“When players come in, you want them to come here and say they made the right decision and play with big smiles on their faces. I think we have achieved that.”
