Arsenal and Man Utd target chooses next club as Edu holds transfer talks

Federico Chiesa reportedly favours a transfer to Manchester United despite Arsenal commencing negotiations with Juventus. The Italy international has been linked with a switch to the Premier League for several years, with Liverpool also understood to have been previously interested in completing a deal.

Chiesa may finally leave Juve this season as the Serie A side raise funds. The Old Lady were banned from European competitions for last season and that resulted in substantial losses.

Arsenal and United are reportedly both interested in winger Chiesa. Italian publication Tutto Juve report that Gunners sporting director Edu has already started negotiations with the Italian side over a potential move.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Chiesa would prefer a switch to United despite their lack of Champions league football. The tricky wide man is expected to be sold by Juve, who fear he will otherwise run down his contract.

Chiesa has entered the final year of his deal in Turin and is looking for the next move of his career. Juve are keen to recoup some funds on their No 7, having reportedly invested £52m in his 2022 switch from Fiorentina and his subsequent contract.

The report claims that Bayern Munich have also contacted Juve over a possible deal. Chelsea and Tottenham also harbour an interest but Chiesa is keen on Champions League football, even if his preferred destination in United would not provide that.

Whoever signs Chiesa can expect to conclude a bargain deal. It is claimed that Juve only expect to receive £21-25m for the forward, who scored 10 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions last season.

Chiesa would be a versatile option for either Arsenal or United, able to play across the forward line and in an attacking midfield role. The Red Devils have already strengthened their attack with the addition of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

Arsenal are expected to make Chiesa’s Italy team-mate Riccardo Calafiori their first signing of the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old defender has flown to London this week to undergo a medical ahead of a £38m move.

Calafiori is then expected to join his new Arsenal colleagues on their pre-season tour of the US. the Gunners defeated United 2-1 in a friendly on Saturday, although subsequently lost a penalty shootout that took place after full-time.
