Arsenal spark backlash with cocky post after Man Utd won 13th FA Cup

Arsenal have been ridiculed for their social media post in the immediate aftermath of Manchester United’s FA Cup victory. United won their 13th FA Cup but still trail record-holders Arsenal who have lifted the trophy a record 14 times.

A shock result saw Erik ten Hag orchestrate a brilliant 2-1 victory over reigning FA Cup champions Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.

Youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo etched their names into the history books by scoring in the final, with City tasting defeat in a domestic final for the first time under Pep Guardiola’s reign.

The pair also made history as the first teenagers to net in an FA Cup final, with Mainoo setting a new record as the youngest scorer since 1964.

However, amidst United’s celebrations, Arsenal’s social media team oddly chose that moment to remind everyone of their own FA Cup pedigree.

Right after the match concluded on Saturday, Arsenal’s Twitter (formerly X) account boasted: “We have a legacy in the FA Cup like no other team having lifted the trophy a record 14 times. Can you name the players who started in each of our seven wins since the year 2000?”

The self-promoting tweet was met with derision from social media users who felt that it was an attempt to steal United’s shine.

The Red Devils’ latest success brings their total FA Cup tally to 13, just one shy of Arsenal’s record 14 triumphs. The win also marks Ten Hag’s second trophy in two years, following last season’s Carabao Cup success.

Despite securing two trophies in as many years, Ten Hag’s position at United is under threat, with the club said to be actively seeking potential replacements.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and the out-of-work Mauricio Pochettino who recently left Chelsea are among the coaches being looked at by United.
