Arsenal urged to offer unique contract to ex-Prem star as Messi comparison made

Arsenal have been told that signing Leroy Sane on a unique contract could land them a ‘brilliant’ new addition. The former Manchester City star is set to explore his options at the end of the season when his Bayern Munich deal expires.

Sane’s star has dwindled in recent years and he now faces the prospect of being a free agent aged 29. However, former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann believes the winger could revive his career back in the Premier League, in which he made 90 appearances for City earlier in his career. Some inconsistent performances could be worked around by handing Sane a performance-based contract, Hamann says.

The German also insists that criticism over Sane’s body language is misplaced, pointing out that Lionel Messi would be a “non-league player” if he was judged on that alone.

“Leroy Sane’s consistency has been a problem with Bayern Munich. This is why he probably won’t get offered a new contract,” Hamann told PokerScout.

“However, I think if you give him a performance-based contract, you’d have a brilliant player on your hands. That’s what I would do. I heard that Arsenal are interested and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case.

“I think he’s a good kid. I think some people read too much into body language, if you look at Lionel Messi’s body language you think he’s a non-league player. So I don’t give too much thought to that, I think he’s a good kid. The fact is he’s not been consistent enough, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be for Arsenal next season.”

Sane has reported interest from Arsenal and Manchester United. However, both clubs also have other attacking targets, while they are likely to face competition from across Europe for a player who has registered 110 goal contributions in 212 appearances for Bayern and won three Bundesliga titles.

Arsenal are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window. It is widely understood that a £51million deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is close to being finalised. A winger and a centre-forward will also be on their agenda.

Boss Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of Newcastle star Alexander Isak. However, the Swede is likely to cost a mega nine-figure sum. The Gunners could therefore turn their attention to cheaper alternatives in Benjamin Sesko or Hugo Ekitike.
